In Georges Bizet’s music, French poetry takes on extraordinary emotional force. His chamber miniatures are subtle psychological sketches in which transparent lyricism gradually gives way to dramatic tension, and each poetic image reveals an entire world of human experience.
Maurice Ravel takes us into a realm of refined colours, rhythms and exotic imagery. In “Five Greek Folk Melodies”, the simplicity of folk song meets impeccable French refinement: the solemnity of a wedding ceremony, the quiet space beside an old church, playfulness and passion come alive in delicate musical miniatures.
In the rhapsody “Tzigane”, a free, spirited, dazzling world appears before us, where virtuosity becomes the language of passion, inner freedom and elemental energy.
